Jerry Johnston Interviews Penn Jillette on Atheism and the Bible

A highly recognizable character, Penn Jillette has toured the world in his act Penn & Teller. Author of Every day is an Atheist Holiday! and outspoken proponent of atheism, Jillette entertained the thousands of atheists gathered at the 2016 Reason Rally. In my brief interview with Penn Jillette, I asked him his opinion of the Bible. Penn answered,

“When anybody comes to me and says- you know that I love Hitchens, Hitchens is a good friend of mine and a hero. You know that I love Dawkins, you know that I love Lawrence Krauss. But if you’re telling me you want to explore atheism, I say read the Bible. Go right to the source and ask the horse. I mean, if you can read the Bible and finish that and say this is a cogent argument for a benevolent God, then you’ve seen something in it – I’ve tried to read it, you know, I say that I read it all the time but I always have it on my phone and pull it up now and again and try and get through it. But you know, I’m reading the Bible over, you know, an eight year period to read the Bible. Because I just read a few pages now and again.”

Can you go to the source and defend your faith? There is a “cogent” argument for the claims of Jesus Christ.  Are you equipped to teach your children the foundations of the Christian faith? Our prayer is for Christians to know why they believe in the None Other (Acts 4.12).
