Dr. Jerry Johnston Interviews Philip Renner

Philip Renner is a worship leader who is known for his ministry in the Moscow Good News Church and throughout the former Soviet Union. His father, Rick Renner, is a well-known pastor and evangelist.

Philip Renner joined Dr. Jerry Johnston, VP of Innovation and Strategic Marketing for Houston Baptist University, to talk about the impossible and the possible in life and ministry.

“God does the impossible,” Renner says, referencing the work of spreading the Gospel in Russia and beyond. “Everything that has been done through the years – people have said it’s never been done before.”

The Renner family moved to Russia in 1992, and Philip and his parents and two brothers soon learned to love their new home. “God said to build a church in Moscow,” Renner says. “A lot of people would say, ‘It’s just impossible to own your own land and to get the permissions.

But we live by faith and not by sight and speak things that are not as though they are.”

In the years that the family has ministered, they’ve seen conversions and miracles. “It’s powerful what God is doing,” Renner says. “God is alive, moving, active and breaking barriers and limitations.”

Renner challenges people to seek God wholeheartedly. “Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘My plans for you are good and not for evil.’ No matter what’s happening right now, no matter the evil that is happening around you – God is telling you His plans for you are good – so you have nothing to worry about. Later it says, ‘You have sought me and you have found me.’ If you just seek Jesus, you are going to find Him,” Renner says. “Open the Word, study the Word, cry out to God, and you will find him. Even more, He will find you. You will call and He will hear you. Wherever you are right now in your school, in your neighborhood, at your job, the world around you might be getting darker, but guess what, that just makes your faith brighter and stronger, and you can stand out with your morals, standards, with what you watch, don’t watch – your life can be a light. God’s got a good, good plan for you.”

Stephen Evans, PhD at @baylor, and author of the recently released, A History of Western Philosophy: From Pre-Socratics to Postmodernism @ivpress. It took him seven years to write it. Jerry Johnston on the Rise of Christianity in Russia – Philip Renner Interview

Christianity on the rise in Russia? Meet Philip Renner, son of Rick and Denise Renner, founders of the Moscow Good News Church, which runs 4,000 in attendance in the heart of Russia’s mega-city of 13,000,000. One Russian leader states, “Nowadays it is hip to be religious in Russia.” There are 30,000 churches in Russia and they are gaining in prominence. Cristie, myself, and friends, Rick and Denise, were equally inspired early in our careers by Dr. William Bennett, pastor of First Baptist Church, Ft. Smith, AR. Who could forget Dr. Bennett’s 5:00a.m. breakfast meetings when he would want to conjugate a Greek verb and talk about biblical texts?

The Christian Thinkers Society with Jeremiah Johnston now sets it site on a ministry tour in the 15 union republics of the former USSR. Philip Renner, young and dynamic, is impressive and has a distinct worship ministry imbued by parents “who do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen” (2 Cor. 4:18). He has visited ministered in many of those republics. The day he came to Houston, he was with us he was fasting. We were so impressed with his faith and look forward to working with him in the future.

Has America’s Christianity become impotent? Why are the nones on the rise? Did you know the “nones” are now actually forming quasi-churches? Faith in the USA is in serious trouble whether we recognize it or not.

Conversely, Philip Renner grew up in Moscow. The entire interview with Philip Renner, which is absolutely fascinating, can be found on the Christian Thinkers Society Facebook page and www.jerryjohnston.com.

JERRY: Tell us about that facility (church) in Moscow, it’s gorgeous- the pictures I’ve seen.

PHILIP: Well, God said, “Build the church in Moscow.” And to build the church in Moscow is very very difficult, extremely expensive. A lot of people would say it’s just impossible. Laws about building in Russia and Moscow they’re changing all the time. But that building’s there because we live by faith and not by sight and we speak things that are not as those they were, as though they are – Romans 4:17. God took what was invisible and made it visible.

JERRY: I recently listened to the pastor at Resurrection Life in Grand Rapids talk about the multiplied thousands of people that Good News Church and Rick Renner Ministries, and Philip Renner, your brothers have done.

PHILIP: Well the church is about 4,000 people which is one of the biggest churches in Moscow.

Researchers, Drs. Jerry and Cristie Jo Johnston, are Executive Producing a quick-paced film via trans continental, staccato interviews documenting the shocking rise of the non-religious.

Introducing “And Then There Were Nones”

And Then There Were Nones

There is a emerging trend across North America demographically that is indisputable. Regretfully, most of us are unaware of even what is going on. People are leaving. Where are they going? Why are they going? Who are the influencers? What is the prediction for America’s spiritual future? The dichotomy presents the Nones and the None Other. Filmmakers Drs. Jerry and Cristie Johnston are interviewing a cast of international experts for a riveting documentary to be released in 2016. They are listening to the nones and dones! Moreover, the Johnston’s are profiling the One Person who divides time and destinies.
