Jerry Johnston Interviews Larry Decker on The Religiously Unaffiliated

04 September 2016

While filming at the atheist Reason Rally in Washington, DC, I had a quick interview with Larry Decker, the Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America. I asked Larry’s opinion of the Pew Research documentation that 21 percent of adult Americans are nones. Larry Decker is one person among the 55 million who are nones.  Larry told me,

“I’m one of them. I’m religiously unaffiliated. I think that what we’re seeing is that the “none of the above” community and the religiously unaffiliated community in this country is growing larger than any religious demographic. To me, that says that we’re winning, you know. It’s not a fight against religion per se, but it’s a fight for the equality for all people in this country to have freedom of religion and freedom from religion.”

From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to American and British universities, our documentary has Cristie Jo and I filming around the world. We are consulting with the religiously unaffiliated and Christian researchers as they chronicle the rise of the nones.

Larry Decker  is the Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America.

Researchers, Drs. Jerry and Cristie Jo Johnston, are Executive Producing a quick-paced film via trans continental, staccato interviews documenting the shocking rise of the non-religious.
